A New Sketch Album Design
I still like the original album, I believe it’s well designed. But… I came across this lovely handmade paper and I felt inspired… and decided to design another album as an alternative. Those of you who like more formal style will most likely still choose the original album, and that’s absolutely fine! But I am pleased to be able to offer you the choice, to make your album fit the style of your wedding even better.
The advantage of the new album is it the sketches are not permanently attached to the pages, which means it’s a bit kinder way of binding them. It has a bit more “artsy”, rustic feel. It doesn’t have the opening in the front cover, as with the more traditional way of binding this is not really possible. It doesn’t have the ribbon either but with some beautiful fabric on the cover it looks great (even if I say so myself!). You get to chose the fabric, of course, just like with the original sketch album.
You might not know this but I actually trained as a professional book binder/restorer for 3 years, in fact, I even taught it for a while. I did enjoy it, but then the path of my life took me in a different direction and I thought I would not come back to it again. And yet, here I am, finding this skill again, like a little treasure that helps me make these lovely albums for you!
Each one of these albums take several days to make, as there are several drying stages. It is not work that can be rushed, but it is worth it.
I couldn’t think of a good, creative name for my second album at that moment, so I called it Sketch Album II. Well, really rather unimaginative I have to admit, but it works.
So, to show off some examples here, feast your eyes on these:
If you are wondering about the paper strips on the side of each page, they are there to level the spine after the sketches are added to the album, all for a reason! As with all my services, I never stop trying to improve what I do, whether it’s my art, albums, display frames etc… so who knows, there might be a third album design coming at some point! 🙂
But one thing is for sure: all the albums I make are made with love and a great care.
